GSPL Transmission Limited (erstwhile GSPL) along with its consortium partners IOCL, BPCL and HPCL were awarded the authorization for two natural gas pipelines namely Mehsana Bhatinda (MBPL) and Bhatinda Jammu Srinagar (BJSPL) now Bhatinda Gurdaspur Pipeline (BGPL) Pipelines by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) on July 7, 2011
GSPL India Gasnet Limited (GIGL) was incorporated in October 2011 as a Special Purpose Vehicle promoted by (erstwhile GSPL) along with national oil marketing companies namely, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) for the purpose of implementation of cross-country pipeline passing through the States of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab.
In the consortium, GTL (erstwhile GSPL) holds 52% while IOCL has 26%, HPCL and BPCL holds 11% each.
The Mehsana Bhatinda Pipeline Project (MBPL) and Bhatinda Gurdaspur Pipeline Project are one of the largest bid out cross country pipeline in India.
After obtaining various statutory clearances viz. Environmental Clearance, PESO Clearance, Wildlife Clearance, Forest Permissions, GIGL commenced construction of one of India’s largest bid out networks.
As a matter of great pride, in September 2018, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India duly inaugurated 440 Kms of pipeline sections of GIGL network namely (i) Palanpur-Pali (ii) Barmer-Pali and (iii) Jalandhar-Amritsar. These sections enabled gas supply in various regions including Banaskantha, Sirohi, Pali, Jalore, Barmer, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur and Amritsar districts. Going forward, in spite of encountering several challenges including COVID-19 related restrictions, Farmer’s protest, difficult terrains, GIGL successfully achieved mechanical completion of ~846 kms of MBPL pipeline project and the same was ready for commissioning by 31st March, 2022.
Subsequently, in FY 2022-23, GIGL commenced operations of a total of around 1254 kms of pipeline network to enable gas transmission to Rohtak, Jind & Sonipat, Jaipur, Sikar & Jhunjhunun, Ajmer and Sirsa Districts.
As of March 2026, GIGL operates around 1,419 kms pipeline and is transporting gas to Sirohi, Jalore, Barmer, Pachpadra, Pali, Ajmer, Jaipur, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Churu and Bikaner, Rohtak, Jind & Sonipat, Sirsa, Bathinda, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala and Jalandhar Districts. GIGL network is the backbone for many CGD entities enroute and in FY 2025-26, GIGL transported 1750.79 MMSCM of natural gas.
Development of the GIGL network has given a boost to gas consumption, especially for many of the unserved markets on the Northern / North-western belt. Gradual development of CGD networks enroute GIGL trunk infrastructure is not only leading growth in gas consumption but is also helping in curbing pollution. GIGL is poised to play an important role of a catalyst that will spur industrialization in the regions of Rajasthan, Punjab & Haryana.
Once the projects are commissioned, the Company will have cross country gas grid pipeline assets of approx. ~1560 Kms traversing through the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.
